HARTFORD, Conn. -- The baby cradles on display have only their purpose in common. One is a wooden Biedermeier made in Germany around 1840, another was made by the Tsimshian tribe of the Pacific Northwest and a third is a 1996 collapsible cardboard crib made by Danish designer Ole Gjerlov Knudsen. There also are a number of African mats, sleeping bags and hammocks on show nearby. The exhibit, titled "kid size: The Material World of Childhood," features 150 children's toys, items of furniture and artifacts that span three centuries and come from six continents. It opened...
